Steven Speilberg
Steven Speilberg is known as one of the most popular movie directors and producers in history. He is also the cofounder of DreamWorks Studios. He has directed many films throughout his career, including the Indiana Jones series, War Horse, Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and Jurassic Park. But he wasn't always so successful. Speilberg encountered many hardships while developing his career in the film industry. Because he persevered through these hardships, he is the successful person hat he is today.
By the age of 12, Speilberg was already making amateur films, including one about a train wreck involving his toy trains. As his love for filmmaking grew, he started making more and more professional type films. At the age of 16 he wrote and directed an independent film called "firelight" which was shown in a local cinema. After graduating from high school, Speilberg was interested in pursuing his dream of working as a director and producer in the film industry. He applied to USC (University of Souther California) but was rejected because of his grade average. Feeling dejected, but not ready to give up, he then applied to California State University. School wasn't easy for him, but he was able to obtain an internship at Universal Studios in the editing department. During his time there, he came up with many ideas, but wasn't exactly given the opportunity to bring them to life. That was until he was able to write and direct the short movie "Amblin". |
From there, he went on to direct many more popular movies such as, the Disney movie" BFG", "Saving Private Ryan", and "Twilight Zone the movie". But his success did not come easy to him. There were a lot of set backs for him during his college years, such as failed scripts, and missed opportunities. He believed in himself, and was able to persevere through his hard times. Because he was able to push through, he went on to win an academy award for best director for a movie called "Schindler's List", and "Saving Private Ryan". He achieved box office records, earning 9 billion dollars worldwide, meaning that he was the highest grossing director in history. His personal net worth is around three billion! This is a great example of an underdog coming out of the shadows and making themselves known. |
